Mary Miller Supports Foreign Wars Over Family Farms
Jennifer Todd Says Farmers Come First
According to the USDA’s most recent Census of Agriculture, IL-15 is home to about 21,000 farms and 26,000 farmers working more than 8 million acres. Together, they generate more than $8 billion in annual sales, nearly a third of all farm sales in Illinois.
Farmers are being squeezed from every direction. Costs are rising.
Farm income is falling. The USDA projects inflation-adjusted net farm income will fall 5.5% in 2026, while farmers face higher costs for equipment, fuel, fertilizer, and other supplies.
The war with Iran is adding even more pressure, pushing fertilizer and diesel prices higher and adding thousands of dollars in costs for the average farm. Mary Miller has had five opportunities to vote to end unauthorized U.S. involvement in this war and each time she has supported foreign war over family farms.
Not once has she asked the people who elected her if that’s what they wanted. Miller hasn’t held one Town Hall meeting or constituent meeting to ask Illinois 15 residents how they feel. She keeps voting for special interests and against the interests of the people of Illinois 15.
Jennifer Todd, Democratic candidate for Congress in Illinois 15 said, “Mary Miller’s votes have consequences here at home. When fuel and fertilizer cost more, farmers pay more to plant, harvest, and get their crops to market. Our farmers deserve better.”
Todd continued, “As a nurse and a mom, I know what it means to stretch a dollar and worry about how you’re going to cover the bills. Farmers face those same pressures, while also carrying the responsibility of keeping a business running and passing a family farm on to the next generation. I’m running for Congress because working people deserve someone who will listen, stand up for them, and put their needs ahead of political games.”
Todd, a second-generation nurse, mom, daughter of a veteran, raised in a union household, won the Democratic nomination for Congress in the 15th Congressional District. Her former Democratic primary opponents have subsequently joined together in support of her campaign.
